What is your name?
João Almeida

What is your role at YLD?
Software Engineer III in Lisbon. A Software Engineer III is an engineer experienced in production systems, responsible for complex technical decisions and mentoring.

What did you do before joining YLD?
I was a Software Engineer at a Start-Up.

Why did you decide to have a career in Software Engineering?
I have always loved computers and questioned how they work and how to build software to run on them.

What’s the best advice you’ve been given in your career?
Keep being curious.

What are you most proud of in your career?
Working at YLD. Yep, that’s true, because I’ve grown and learned a lot since I started here. I have had the opportunity to work remotely with great clients and get to witness our work making a big impact on our client’s architectural decisions and mindset.

What are you currently working on?
Helping a client adopting a DevOps culture by adding CI/CD processes and migrating the services into Kubernetes.

How does working at YLD differ to the companies you’ve worked at before?
Working remotely with top tech companies, facing new challenges everyday and having amazing and intelligent people as colleagues.

What tech are you excited about at the moment?

GitLab CI and Kubernetes.

What are you looking forward to in future with YLD?
To continue to have challenges that allow me to grow both personally and professionally.

What is your professional long-term goal?
To work with complex software architectures and to focus on performance/testing/resiliency.
